Hi Matthew,

I'm an undergraduate Anthropolgy major at the University of Rhode Island, currently enrolled in an archaeological ethics course.

I'm am currently doing a research project on the effects of eBay and archaeological sites and artifacts and was wondering if you would be willing to put a link to a quick survey I have created.

I have been reading some scholarly articles on the matter and am quite surprised that there isn't much research going into the matter.

Here is the link to my survey, just in case.

thank you so much

Thanks very much Ken, I wasn't aware of those, but I pass Clackett Lane sometimes, perhaps I'll take a look next time.

Matthew

A couple of examples of permanent archaeological displays at sites where there the material was discovered at the time of development:

Cambridge Motorway Service Station on the A1(M)
Clackett Lane Service Station on M25

Doesn't occur too often, but it has been tried where there is a high level of footfall. It might be interesting to know if the car travelling public has an appetite for this type of dis/attraction.

Hi Matt,
I thought I should make a public declaration/ promise of my help with this project.
It is an important project, bringing quality information to the web for free.
Please feel free to guilt me /harass me over this at your leisure.

There is a great story that he used to have a short man with a sawn off shovel stand next to his sections, - it made them look more impressive!

Time team is an excellent vehicle for publicising archaeology, & public support is why we can afford £60,000 a year for a professor . . . or 3 real archaeologists.

Love the way he has been portrayed as the handsome and dashing (if mature) hero type in the illustration on the cover!

This amused me because some years ago I had a conversation (some might say 'argument') with a professor of archaeology who was being really rude about 'Time Team' because it made archaeology accessible to the hoi polloi.
I rather like the fact that ordinary people with whom I chat at bus stops, on trains etc have an idea what archaeology is because of television programmes about it.
I find it amusing that they think I'm pretty cool just because I have worked with archaeologists a lot; and they think archaeologists are really cool, mainly because they have seen them on television.
