A Big Day for British Archaeology

March 23, 2010

Planning Policy Statement 5, the UK government’s policy statement for planning and conservation of  the historic environment, has been released. PPS5 updates PPG15 and PPG16, the policy guidelines for standing buildings and buried archaeology respectively, which are from 1994 and 1990 respectively. I haven’t had a chance to look through it yet, I’ll be doing so shortly.

Also, The Staffordshire Hoard has been succesfully saved for the nation and, closer to my home, English Heritage have announced a £200 000 grant to help repair the Victorian landmark Cabot Tower in Bristol.

So big day. I’d be interested to know what any readers make of PPS5.
